The health technologies group at Apple is an interdisciplinary team of engineers and creators who have brought us some of the best health and wellness product features over the last few years.
Whether it’s Myoung Cha and his team, leading the Apple Health Strategic initiatives to form different partnerships with life sciences firms such as Biogen and ZimmerBiomet or Jay Blahnik and his special projects team at Apple helping Apple Fitness+ gain momentum, there appears to be a large number of developments in the Health and Wellness space at the labs at Cupertino.
A new Apple job posting suggests that Apple may be developing Apple-branded health hardware products
The company is looking for a Sr. EPM Manager for their Health Technologies team to lead the design and development of Apple-branded Health Hardware products.
According to the posting, The EPM is also the key interface to the suppliers, driving build readiness at the factory and managing its building. Success is defined in terms of the quality and timeliness of the pre-production builds and the start of mass production.
This probably signifies that some new Apple Health Hardware product/s are about to enter factory production soon
- Apple’s new research unveils plans for Health coaching and effective blood glucose management
- Apple Fitness+ to provide customized exercise and health recommendations in the future
Most of the Apple Health and Wellness features have been channeled through the Apple Watch and iPhone up until now.
In the past, the company has made several acquisitions or partnerships to promote health-related hardware.
The company acquired the popular sleep monitoring brand Beddit and integrated the offering into its own stores and support channels.
Partnership with other health hardware players in the past did not always yield the right results.
Apple’s partnership with AliveKor is an example. AliveKor has stopped selling its Kardia products through Apple’s channel, and the two companies are now in a dispute over a patent infringement case.
The new Apple Health Hardware product job description does not provide any clues about these potential new products’ nature however the company also hired a Senior counsel to help with Health products.
Wrapping it up
Given that Apple is looking to driving build readiness at the factory and launch mass production soon, we are hoping that the product is more geared towards Health and less around wellness.
It would be awesome to finally see blood pressure monitoring or Continuous Glucose monitoring systems with Apple Software and services.
