Aktiia receive CE approval and launches its blood pressure monitoring wearable

Aktiaa on-wrist Blood pressure monitor

Aktiia has received CE Mark approval as a Class IIa medical device and is now available for sale in Europe.

Aktiia is the first 24/7 automated blood pressure monitoring system that seamlessly measures your blood pressure over hours, weeks, and months both during the day and while you sleep.

This new wearable from Aktiia will go a long way in helping people with hypertension and other cardiovascular-related issues.

The wrist-based wearable comes with a battery life of 9 days, following which a full charge of 90 minutes will get the power to 100%.

The device has been tested in 5 different clinical trials and has proven to generate accurate BP readings.

Aktiia uses a technique called pulse wave analysis to process optical signals to estimate blood pressure accurately.

Unlike the Samsung blood pressure monitoring feature available on the Galaxy Smartwatch, Aktiia provides 24/7 blood pressure monitoring.

“Hypertension is the #1 cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide,” said Dr. Neil Poulter, Professor of Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at Imperial College London. “Accurate blood pressure measurement and particularly 24/7 monitoring of blood pressure are increasingly recognized as important to improve the diagnosis and control of raised blood pressure, thereby improving patient outcomes. Tracking blood pressure over long periods, without alerting the patient, represents a potential game-changer in the diagnosis and monitoring of hypertension.”

People in the UK can pre-order the wearable starting now from the company’s website.

The new wearable costs 160 pounds and includes the 24/7 blood pressure monitoring service.

Pre-order customers will also receive free ongoing access to the Aktiia 24/7 blood pressure monitoring service, normally an £8.99/month subscription fee after the first year.
