Mindfulness and meditation practices have become increasingly popular over the last decade. The demand grew significantly post-pandemic as people were looking for alternatives to help them with increasing anxiety and other mental health challenges.
According to a recent report by InsightAce study, the Mindfulness Meditation Apps Market is booming & expected to grow at a CAGR of 34.90% to 2031 with a market potential of billions of dollars.
Established Players such as Headspace made a whopping $235 million dollars last year from their subscriber base.
Apple wants to leverage this surging market with its new Vision Pro.
According to Apple’s job postings and new reports, the company is aspiring to become a significant player in this fast-growing market of digital offerings centered around mindfulness, meditation, and stress management.
Apple introduced the Mindfulness app, formerly Breathe in 2016 on the Apple Watch and has been updating the app and associated features. For instance, it recently introduced mood tracking and a brand new Journal app.
The area in which Apple is probably adding incremental efforts when it comes to Mindfulness and meditation is on its new Vision Pro platform. Mark Gurman at Bloomberg had recently reported that Apple will be adding features to help improve mental health on the Vision Pro platform.
We have also seen exclusive job postings on Mindfulness at Apple that reflect the need for experienced hires to help Apple achieve its mental health-related ambitions on the new Vision Pro platform.
The job description for one of these roles states:
“Apple’s Vision Products Group (VPG) is looking for a graphics engineer who wants to meaningfully impact the wellness of our users through cutting-edge applications for our next-generation interactive computing platforms. Imagine yourself building fundamental applications on top of Apple’s most advanced technologies while developing your expertise in Spatial Computing.”
The first of the job notices related to Mindfulness date back to Nov last year for an Application Engineer for Mindfulness, Vision Pro. This was subsequently followed by a Graphics Engineer/ specialist for mindfulness and, more recently, in July of 2023.
Explicit job postings in a specific application area may suggest that the company is doing something interesting regarding the Mindfulness and meditation space.
It will be interesting to see how the Mindfulness experience shapes up between Apple Watch, Fitness+, and the emerging Vision Pro platforms.
