Suunto readies a new ultra thin and small Suunto Peak 9

Suunto is gearing up to release a new ultra-thin, small and tough GPS watch with a built-in heart rate and barometer.

Designed and made in Finland, this new Suunto 9 variant is called the Suunto 9 Peak.

Apart from GPS functions, the Suunto 9 peak will track over 80 sports modes and feature a weather monitoring function.

The smartwatch provides context-based weather insights and warnings during your outdoor activity. Keep alert with storm alarms, measure water temperature, or notice if your hike is going past the sunset. This feature makes it a valuable device for outdoor enthusiasts.

Although the weather monitoring feature is currently available only on the Suunto 9 Baro, the documents for Suunto Peak 9 suggest that the new smartwatch may offer this innovative feature.

The new watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters allowing users to use it for swimming exercises.

Besides the basic heart rate monitoring, the Suunto 9 peak is also equipped with stress and recovery monitoring.

The smartwatch comes ready with easy integration to Strava, Trainingpeaks, Adidas running, and more.

Details were available via FCC listing that was made available on March 5th’ 2021.

The current Suunto 9, available on the company’s website, comes with intelligent battery modes, and this same technology has also been integrated into the new thinner Suunto 9 Peak.Suunto 9 Peak smartwatch

Three predefined battery modes – Performance, Endurance, and Ultra – deliver from 25 hours to up to 120 hours of recording time with GPS tracking on. 

Suunto 9 uses smart reminders based on your activity history to ensure you are fully charged for your next outing. 

If the watch notices you are running low on battery during an exercise, it will automatically suggest changing to a different battery mode.

The company has not disclosed when the new Suunto 9 Peak watch will be made available or how much it will cost.

As of writing, the Suunto 9 Baro version retails for $499 before any customizable options, and the basic Suunto 9 is available for $329.
