Fossil offers its own built-in sleep tracking feature for its wearOS smartwatches. Using Fossil’s Wellness app allows you to use your Fossil smartwatch to easily track and report your sleep patterns automatically.
Plus, you can also share your Sleep data from the Wellness app with Google Fit and can view your current data and history in the Google Fit phone app.
Here is how you can use the sleep tracking feature on your Gen 5 and Gen 6 smartwatches. There are a few different options that you can use for sleep tracking on Fossil Gen 5 and 6.

Setting up Sleep Tracking Using Wellness App on Fossil Gen 5 and Gen 6
Since Google Fit does not natively track sleep, you need to use a sleep-tracking app and connect it to Google Fit to get your sleep metrics. If you own a Fossil watch, it makes sense to use Fossil’s built-in Wellness app to track your sleep, rather than a third-party app.
Can’t find the Wellness app on your Fossil smartwatch?
If you don’t see the Wellness app, update your watch. you are likely using older and outdated firmware.
To check for updates, on your watch go to Settings > System > About > System Updates.
We recommend connecting your watch to WiFi for the fastest system updates.
How to turn on Sleep tracking using Fossil’s Wellness app
You can enable the sleep tracking feature directly on your Fossil smartwatch with a few easy steps.
- On your watch open the Wellness App.
- Scroll down to Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Select Tracking Preferences.
- Toggle Sleep Tracking on.
Once it’s on, you’ll see your sleep metrics inside the Wellness app. If you want to see these details on your phone, connect the Wellness app to Google Fit.
Connect Fossil’s Wellness app with Google Fit
To get your sleep data sharing with Google Fit, do the following:
- Sign in to your Google account in the Google Fit phone app AND in the Google Fit watch app.
- Log into your Fit account in the Wellness app:
- Open the Wellness app.
- Scroll down and choose Settings (gear icon.)
- Tap Sign in.
- If you don’t see sign-in, you are already connected to Google Fit. Confirm the listed account (email) is correct.
- Tap the checkmark to sign in to Connect to Google Fit.
- Choose a listed Google account or scroll down and select Add Account.
- Remember to choose the same Google account that you use with Google Fit.
Check your sleep stats on your Fossil watch
- Press the center side button to open up the menu and scroll down and tap on Wellness.
- Next, tap on Sleep and review all the details of your sleep activity.
The other way to access your Sleep reports on your Gen 5 and Gen 6 smartwatch is to add it as a tile (also called widgets) so when you swipe right to left on the screen you get quick access to your Sleep metrics.
In the sleep tile, you can do the following:
- Scroll up on this screen to see your weekly sleep details.
- Further scroll-up actions show you your weekly and monthly sleep totals.
- The last option on the scroll-up action opens up to a screen where you can set your Sleep goal in terms of hours and minutes.
And once connected, you can also use the Google Fit app on your phone to set up the sleep monitoring feature.
When you choose to share your Wellness app data with Google Fit, Fossil stores your data in Google Fit, and many of your watch’s health metrics, including Sleep and activity data. You’ll even see fully mapped routes of your GPS-enabled exercises in Google Fit!
Use Google Fit for sleep monitoring
From your phone open up the Google Fit app.
- Tap on the Journal tab at the bottom.
- Locate and tap Sleep.
- Review your sleep duration, schedule, sleep stages and quality, and heart rate while sleeping.
You can also tap on the Home tab at the bottom of the screen and choose Sleep Duration.
If you use a third-party app to track your sleep activity and sync it with Fit, it just compares your bedtime schedule with the data to show you how you are doing.
Use a third-party app to monitor sleep
wearOS and Google Fit users who want to track sleep patterns without using the Wellness app should check out the popular apps Sleep as Android app or Sleep Cycle.
These apps provide many features but for your basic report and understanding your sleep via sleep stages and duration etc, the free Google Fit app shows plenty of information.
Troubleshooting Fossil’s sleep monitoring and Wellness app
First, make sure:
- You have Bluetooth turned on for both your phone and Fossil watch.
- Open the Wear OS app on your phone, and check that it indicates your watch is Connected via Bluetooth.
- You are signed in to Google Fit on your phone and watch and that you connected the Wellness app to Google Fit.
Can’t connect the Wellness app to Google Fit?
If you can’t get the Wellness app to connect to Google Fit, first restart your watch.
If it still doesn’t work, check that you signed in with the same Google account on both apps (the watch’s Wellness spp and Google Fit on your watch and phone.)
Next, sign out of Google Fit on your watch and sign in again.
- Open Google Fit on your watch.
- Scroll down and tap Settings.
- Swipe down and tap Fit account.
- Choose Sign out.
- Once logged out, sign in again. After signing in, open the Wellness app and follow the steps to connect it again to Google Fit.
The Wellness app isn’t tracking my sleep data at all!
Verify that you turned on Sleep Tracking in the Wellness App settings on your watch.
- On your watch open the Wellness App.
- Scroll down to Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Select Tracking Preferences.
- Toggle Sleep Tracking on. Or if it’s already on, toggle it off, restart, and toggle it back on.
Try wearing the watch on the inside of your wrist or arm. This is especially useful if you have tattoos or have a lot of arm hair (you could also shave your hair but wearing it on the inside is a lot easier!)
Is your Fossil’s sleep data no longer syncing with Google Fit?
If your watch’s sleep data is suddenly not showing up in the Google Fit app, first confirm that it is still recording in your Fossil’s Wellness app.
If you see your sleep metrics in the Wellness app but not Google Fit, try signing in and out of your Google account in the Wellness app settings to refresh its connection.
- Open the Wellness app on your Fossil watch.
- Scroll down and tap Settings.
- Choose Account.
- Scroll down and tap Sign Out.
- Once signed out, tap Sign In and follow the steps to reconnect your account. Make sure you accept terms and conditions if asked.
Once you refresh the connection between Fossil’s Wellness app and Google Fit, your sleep history and activity should show up in Google Fit. However, it may take a few minutes to a few hours for all your data to appear.
If you don’t see all your sleep data, open Google Fit’s journal tab and scroll down to a few days before it stopped syncing with the Wellness app.
Tap the sync button at the top of the Journal tab on Fit to force a sync and show all your sleep data for any missing days.
How to disconnect Fossil’s Wellness app from Google Fit
If you decide you want to use a different app to track your sleep, don’t forget to disconnect Wellness from Google Fit.
- On your Android phone, open the Google Fit app and tap the Profile tab.
- Select Settings (the gear icon.)
- Scroll down and choose Manage connected apps.
- Choose Google Fit apps & devices.
- To stop sharing info between Wellness and Fit and Google Fit, tap on the Wellness app and scroll down and tap Disconnect. Then, confirm again.
When you disconnect the Wellness app from Google Fit, it does not delete any data that the app previously stored in Google Fit.

Do you have to wear your watch to record sleep using the Wellness app?
Yes, to accurately track your sleep you need to wear your Fossil watch when you go to bed and maintain wearing it for as long as you want sleep recorded.

Turn on Do Not Disturb Mode on your watch or Theater Mode so your watch doesn’t disturb your sleep by interrupting or lightning up!
