What are some of the go-to Garmin products for cyclists?
Many may know Garmin primarily for their smartwatches, but there are a handful of different Garmin products for cyclists as well. We’ve picked four different categories to showcase some of the most helpful tech products on the market.
GPS bike computers
As a cyclist myself, I have come to love using a cycling computer that can develop road routes for me and track various metrics.
Consider purchasing a GPS computer for your bike if you want something to map your route or measure elevation, distance, and speed.
Garmin Edge 130
If you’re looking to get into cycling, but aren’t sure about committing to a GPS computer yet, try the Garmin Edge 130. This is your best budget buy.
- Compact easy-to-use GPS bike computer
- Simplified, rugged design with 1.8” display that’s crisp and easy to read in sunlight or...
This computer is stripped back and simple, making it a great entry-level product. Many riders also prefer its tactile buttons over the touch screen function of other computers.
It’s got ANT+ and Bluetooth capabilities to pair with heart rate monitors, cadence sensors, and power meters. With its small size and easy-to-read screen, it’s light and discrete.
The only negative reported by users is there is a bit of a GPS lag at times. Nonetheless, it’s a great performer and one of many helpful Garmin products for cyclists.
Garmin 1030 Plus
This model has been deemed as one of the best at doing everything. It has a price to match, though.
The Garmin 1030 is truly a smart tracker. It’s incredibly user-friendly and comes with loads of navigational tools, messaging functions, safety features, and nutrition and hydration alerts.
- The ultimate GPS cycling computer with 3.5" color touchscreen display combines navigation,...
- Get ready to ride without the fuss with prepopulated custom ride profiles based on your previous...
With a quick setup process, extended battery life, and a bright color display, this is a solid option for the more experienced cyclist. Its only downside is its larger size to pack in all these features.
Power meter pedals
Increase the efficiency of your workouts by installing some power meter pedals – one of Garmin’s products for cyclists that I think holds the most value.
Power meter pedals help provide input about your time and effort to ensure you get the most out of your training. It’s quite an effective way to measure your improvement over time.
Garmin Vector 3S
This single-sensing pedal-based power meter houses its sensor on the left pedal. Because of this setup, the Vector 3S is a cheaper option.
- Material: [pedal body] composite, [wearplate & spindle] stainless steel
- Float: 6-degree
It’s quick to install and easily transferable between bikes. It measures the core metrics of both your cadence and total power, and if you wish, it can be upgraded to a dual-sensing system, too.
The great thing about having multiple Garmin products is that most talk to one another. With these power meter pedals, you can easily connect with other Garmin cycling computers and the Garmin Connect app to better monitor your fitness metrics.
Garmin Rally XC200
Power meter pedals aren’t only for road bikes anymore. The Garmin Rally XC200 is built for the toughest mountain bikes, one of the most recent and cooler Garmin products for cyclists.
Because it is a dual-sensing system, it can measure power output and left/right balance, platform center offset, and seated vs. standing power (among other things).
With its ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, you’re free to set it up with any of your other favorite Garmin gadgets.
Smart headlights and tail lights
If you’re out on the road, safety is key. We’ve selected one of the coolest smart tail lights on the market this year.
Garmin Varia RTL515
This new smart bike radar and tail light appear to be one of the more useful things to come on the cycling market in recent years.
Not only is it your standard safety tail light with up to a mile of visibility, but it also provides increased protection with visual and audio alerts when out on the road.
- Rearview radar with tail light provides awareness of vehicles approaching from behind up to 153...
- Pairs seamlessly with your Edge bike computer and compatible smartphone as well as select Garmin...
The Varia RTL515 can pair to your smartphone or other compatible Garmin device to notify you of oncoming cars. In the event that you don’t see them, or they don’t see you, your smart light has you covered.
Another great feature is its handy peloton mode that automatically dims the light when riding in a group so as not to blind your fellow cycling companions. Its long (16 hours) battery life also saves less time charging and more time on the road.
We personally think this is one of the coolest Garmin products for cyclists currently on the market.
Indoor cycling trainers
Garmin doesn’t technically make its line of indoor trainers, but they have partnered with a few models that sync your riding data to the Garmin Connect app.
During the winter months in most northern regions, outdoor cycling becomes more of a taxing experience rather than an enjoyable one.
I like to turn to an indoor option during the colder season – the cycling trainer. Fortunately, the Tacx brand of indoor cycling systems is now part of Garmin’s smart-tech wheelhouse!
Tacx NEO 2T Smart Trainer
This trainer is quieter, more comfortable, and more accurate than most competitors. It’s been said to give you the best “road feel” and offers the ultimate immersion when you’re forced indoors.
It’s built to be powerful and highly compatible with both Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity to connect its Tacx software to any Garmin cycling computer.
- A More Comfortable Ride: NEO 2T Smart reacts instantly to speed or incline changes and allows for...
- Powerfully Built: NEO 2T Smart features a new motor design that delivers more power at low speeds,...
Because of this compatibility, you can seamlessly sync your ride data to your Garmin Connect app. We think it’s a great buy!
Tacx NEO Bike Smart Trainer
If you want all the qualities of the NEO 2T Smart Trainer but in full bike form, the NEO Bike is your answer.
The NEO Bike is packed full of the same impressive qualities as the stand-alone trainer, but it doesn’t require any setup or transition of your own bike.
If you prefer a stationary bike or don’t have a road bike in the first place, this is a great option that also maintains its compatibility with all Garmin devices.
- Innovative design creates a realistic feel and accurate-to-life riding position; virtual shifting...
- Smart technology and next-to-silent Internal design Let you ride without disturbing others
Just know that because it is a full, free-standing bike body, you’ll be paying a higher price than for the trainer alone.
